Bit of background for you........ Team Sky are staying in Alcudia on the Balearic island of Majorca. The GB team are here as well with the men's and women's endurance track teams.
Riders have been coming and going since the beginning of December and will be until the end of January.

Dave Brailsford: Yes it was quite a surprise and quite disappointing too given that Thomas Lovkvist was second last year and won the year before. The decision can't be based on a performance basis.
Sky Italia, Pinarello, Deda and Prologo are all key Italian partners of ours, so we're left a little bewildered to understand this decision. We've chased it up with RCS and their claim is that it's due to the 40% rule in 1.1 races. 14 teams, 7 of which are World Tour teams and the rest are Pro Continental.
The best response to this as always would be a great performance in Tirenno and let the legs do the talking.

What advice would you give to a junior rider who has missed out on the bcf development programs but is very close if not better at times than the riders on it, on following the goal of being a pro?

Dave Brailsford: There are several riders who've successfully made it in to the pro ranks, who have not been on BC development programs, so don't despair. We work hard at selection but everyone develops at different rates and an attitude can also take you a very long way.
Keep believing in your own ability, work hard and train hard and the rewards will come.

Dave Brailsford: WIthout doubt the cq ranking website is a great source of information and it's followed closely by riders and team managers. It's interesting to get a riders full history and monitor progression while it's also interesting to compare different groups for example climbers to climbers or sprinters to sprinters.
it's good for tracking the development of young riders the only drawback is that it's quite addictive. You can spend way too long analysing it.

Dave Brailsford: First of all it's great that you've got involved in our sport, you're not alone as so many people of different ages an ability are now taking up cycling. I think it's important for us to recognise the role that both the GB team and Team Sky has in trying to inspire greater participation in cycling, across the board.
Sky's main reason for partnering with BC and Team Sky is to elevate both awareness and participation across the board. They have invested greatly in the city centre Sky Rides and Sky Local rides to encourage families and people of all ages and abilities to ride their bikes and have fun.
In conclusion, I think it's fair to say that we are very lucky to be enjoying the biggest level of support and investment that the sport has ever had and lets not forget the contribution of the fantastic group of riders that we currently have in the UK from Nicole Cooke, Emma Pooley to Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish, Brad and Steve Peat in downhilling and Shanaze in BMX.

Dave Brailsford: It's more disappointing than anything else as with all new teams there's an opportunity to create a completely new and different identity. The key thing is that it is important for fans and everyone else to differentiate clearly between each team when the racing is fully on. Confusion in identifying riders will lead to less enjoyment.
Why Garmin dropped their fantastically unique Argyle and got as close as you can possibly get to our jersey, I will never know.

Question for Dave - You say that the for the riders to perform best they need to be given all everything they need to be at the top of their ability. Do you agree that they do not need their Team Principal telling the media that Team Sky will win the Tour De France with a British Rider. Surely this just puts far too much pressure on the riders?

Dave Brailsford: Hi AntiTeamSky actually there's a big difference between setting an aspirational goal as against telling the riders that this is what they have to do. With the riders the approach we take is to encourage them to be the best that they can be, as they are ultimately in control of this.
It's an approach that has worked very successfully with the British team and one which we firmly believe in. P.S. What would it take to make you pro Team Sky? What about a day at a race with us?

Dave Brailsford: With Max moving on, Chris Newton has now taken up the coaching responsibility for the men's Endurance Academy. I believe it was time to freshen up our approach and make sure that the key track component remains strong through the winter.
I believe the Academy will continue to go from strength to strength, indeed just yesterday our young Academy team competing at the Beijing track WC rode a 4-05.010 min (team pursuit) which is a new Academy record.
Young riders like Sam Harrison look to have terrific futures ahead of them whilst I'd be very surprised if Luke Rowe doesn't find himself with a pro contract at the end of this year.

Pete Kennaugh: I think the training, with it being my first year pro I felt I trained too hard too early so I was going well for the first training camp but by half way through the season I felt really fatigued, physically and mentally so this year I'm doing it more progressively and also adding track back in to my race and training program.

Pete Kennaugh: Make the most of living at home and enjoying your life outside of the sport. Work hard, play hard. When I was a junior, I always had a balanced lifestyle, which always left me keen for racing and motivated to go out there and race as hard as I could.

Pete Kennaugh: That's a question I ask myself. I think still being young it's hard to pin point exactly what races are going to suit me, I definitely like the stage races and have a lot of them on my calendar. They're something I'm getting more and more used to doing, however on the road I don't think I will truly develop until later on in my career, in terms of long stage races.
I think a lot of people think you can become a stage race rider out of nothing, you have to ride them to develop yourself, physically.

Pete Kennaugh: Just riding your bike as consistently as possible, there's no point doing a five to six hour bike ride and having to take a week off because you're so wrecked after it.
Buy Cycling Weekly (thanks Pete - Ed)
Make sure you're fresh leading in to it, for example, don't train hard the week before and keep well fuelled throughout the race. It's easy to get distracted once you've started racing so keep eating and drinking.

Pete Kennaugh: I'd say it's best to do structured turbo sessions so the time passes quicker and also good music that you enjoy listening to. Friends of mine are developing a DVD for turbo sessions. It should be on sale sometime this year.

Pete has been on the podium of the national champs for the last three years.
Pete Kennaugh: Personally since I've turned U23 I've always wanted a shot of winning the senior national title. Personally I think the U23 title is a consolation prize - everyone's a senior. How it is is the best way, it makes for a better race in the senior nationals and the U23 prize still gets awarded.
As a first year amateur you get to race against all the top British pros - what more do you want?

Last year in Tour of Oman, I think, Team Sky were in a very strong position but from what I read, the rest of the peloton were a bit upset by a big surge in the feed station. They seemed to take revenge and Sky lost the lead. Was it hard to be accepted as a brand new team? JAF: Fabian is able of doing lots of things. For me in cycling there is two big names, one is Contador and one is Fabian. He's able to win a race like Amstel of course I understand once he's achieved all the cobbled classics he wants to focus on something else.
At the same time I like to be challenging the best riders on the cobblestone classics, of course I'd miss him if he's not there.

JAF: The only thing in common is the skills you need, but a cross race is just a one hour effort and in a classic it's a lot more. There's no reason why someone is not able, no matter where they come from, as long as someone really feels and trusts how he wants to focus the rest of his career, nothing can stop you.
It's about being determined on the classics. I don't think the classics understand whether you are Spanish or not, whether you are a cross rider or not. A classic just asks for determination, no matter where you come from.
If you want to be a classics rider, you should be 100% focused on being a classics rider, no matter your background.

JAF: In a big classic there are no deals or favours, so in that case I try to do a deal with the fastest (which is Cav), the youngest (Cav again), and least experienced (Cav one more time).
And ask Cav to do an attack and let the others chase. Just do the opposite of what everyone is expecting and try to convince Cav to do what no one is expecting, so Boonen and Fabian will be confused and not focus on what to do.
But this is just a joke because as I say in the beginning there are no deals in big classics.

Jeremy Hunt: A lot more organised training where you're given a plan the week before you get to the training camp so you can prepare yourself and know what we're doing in the two weeks we have here.
We had two weeks here and a week in between at home, so you can really train well. We get up in the morning and know what we're doing, which is really good for the head.

Jeremy Hunt: Not really thinking about it too much at the moment because we're trying to beat him, but come the day we'll all be fully behind him. It should be good.
I raced the route last year on the last stage of the Tour of Denmark, and it' s a real possibility to win.

Stephen Roche's win was the first one I watched, and me and my brother still pretend we're Stephen Roche catching Pedro Delgado in the mist when we're messing around riding.

Last season 3 Sky riders, Downing, Thomas and Swift competed in the Lincoln Grand Prix. It was great to see Sky riders riding domestic races. Will similar be done for the coming season? With the cobbled climb of Michaelgate it would suit Flecha perfectly!!!

Jeremy Hunt: It depends what the race was. If I won Paris Roubaix I'm sure it would be better than a team mate winning. But if I won a really small race it wouldn't be as good as the team winning a big race.
