After a rest day in Limoges, the Tour is back on the road - just in time for Bastille Day. There’s no better stage than this national holiday for French riders to fly the flag in breakaways. The sprinters’ squads will have to be super-motivated today to control things today, as the first half of the stage cuts through the foothills of the Massif Central, before a flat final fifty kilometres into the finish.
- Issoudun is a first-time Tour stage town.
- The route passes through Guéret, where Robbie McEwen sprinted to victory in 2004.
- Number of French winners on Bastille Day in the last ten years - three (Jalabert 2001, Virenque 2004, Moncoutié 2005)
- Number of bunch sprints on Bastille Day in the last ten years – zero.
