The team time trial returns after a year's hiatus, as race organiser ASO hopes to give the GC its first shake up. However, just how big those time gaps are after the short 23km stage remains to be seen.
After their wins in the opening stage of the Giro and last year's Vuelta, HTC-Highroad will be one of the big favourites, especially as the course in Les Essarts is pan-flat throughout.
Each team's time will be taken once their fifth rider has crossed the line.
