Remarkably, the sole individual time trial of this year's Tour comes a day before Paris.
As recently as 2007 the race included two of them, as well as a prologue, but Fabian Cancellara has had to wait three week to annihilate the rest of the field in his strongest discipline.
The same course was used for this month's Critérium du Dauphiné time trial; Tony Martin set the fastest time of 55-28 on the rolling course in less-than-perfect conditions.
