Tour de France 2012: Stage nine preview
Stage nine
Date: Monday July 9
Start: Arc-et-Senans
Finish: Besançon
Length: 41.5km
Type: Flat, individual time trial
We've had a couple of testing mountains, a hill-top finish and a day of ups and downs. And now this, a 25-mile time trial.
There's no getting away from it, time trials are crucial in every Tour, and this one will be no different.
The good news from the point of view of the weaker riders is that it's ‘only' 41km and time gaps shouldn't be too bad. It's up and down on draggy, narrow open roads, so if it rains, it could get ugly.
