Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) won the overall classification of the Ruta del Sol, Spain, on Thursday.

Valverde won the five-day race's second stage, and safely kept hold of the leader's jersey to the final day in Andalucia. The Spaniard won a stage of the Tour Down Under in January, his first race back after serving a two-year suspension for an anti-doping infringement.
