If the frame is considered the heart of the bike, then the same goes for the base layer of your cycling outfit.

Getting your base layer right will prevent overheating or wishing that you had packed an old Cycling Weekly to shove up your jersey to keep the chill off your chest.

Whether you’re off out on a recovery spin or sticking it in the big ring, keeping your torso warm will mean you can save energy and concentrate all your effort on turning the pedals. We bring you base layers…

Great selection though I think you may have missed off a couple. Another merino wool, by Icebreaker – their long sleeve base layers are fantastic and dont catch bo for about 5 days. Got a second immediately when I saw one at half price.

And the Velobici Ride T recently advocated as a base layer by Mr Brian Palmer of the Washing Machine Post. Currently with 30% off; made from supplex which from the house of many inventions Dupont and lycra (which I think they also invented). Bunches under the armpits but it’s darn comfy and has a lovely luxurious feel; also doesn’t catch bo and helped keep me warm on Sunday.
