In recent years, Easton has been arguably best known for their top-notch carbon wheelsets. However, these fresh-off-the-boat products prove that the American carbon-meisters are a very long way from ignoring the humble contact points of stem, bars and seatpost.

But there’s certainly nothing humble about this new EC90 ‘finishing kit’. Here, it’s a case of carbon all the way, so if lightweight, stiffness and a super-cool matt black finish is your bag, then look no further. Easton also supplies Cadel Evans and his BMC team with bars, stems and posts, so you can also add ‘Tour-winning pedigree’ to the list of reasons to give these a look.

We’re not going to lie to you: we love the orangey-red finish of the SLX3 bars, but it seems a travesty to have to cover it with bar tape. The compact bend shape employed here has become increasingly popular with racers, and a weight of less than 200g make them all the more attractive. Width choices are a comprehensive 38cm to 46cm, centre-to-centre, while price is the only upsetting aspect: a hefty £219.99.

The matching EC90SL stem may look a little hefty, and cosmetics-wise it’s divided the CW office, but there were no arguments when it came to weight: just 110g for a size 100mm, making it one of the very lightest options on the market.

And having you sitting pretty is the EC90 Offset post – sticking with the featherweight theme and tipping the scales at just 200g for a 350mm length. The EC90 Zero is also available, giving you zero offset, as its name suggests. Both models have the usual diameter options: 27.2, 30.9 or 31.6mm.

Expensive, and beautiful, Easton’s new EC90 range may be, but reassuringly so. Like with most things in life, here you get what you pay for.
