Knowing that high-end customers can be pernickety, Lapierre has devised a great website to allow the customisation of almost the entire spec of its Xelius or Sensium bikes.
Known as W-Series bikes, clicking through to www.wseries.cycles-lapierre.fr gains you access to this world of Gallic personalisation.
With a choice of the two frame types in a couple of colour and seatpost iterations, there are a total of five chassis choices from which to hang a selection of six groupsets – electronic, Italian, American, Japanese; they are all there.
Crank length can be chosen, as can the compact or standard chainring preference. Wheels: carbon, deep- section, tubular or lightweight – six choices in total. Onward to finishing kit – again, three brands with choices of bar drop and width, stem length and seatpost too. There will never be a need for mismatched collars and cuffs again!
Pricing is updated as you swap items so you can see how much more those bling wheels will damage the wallet, but once done and dusted with the spec of your new bike, emailing or visiting a store is the next stage.
Advice and final tweaks are done and then the bike is hand-assembled by mechanics at Lapierre’s Dijon facility. With a three to four week turnaround, the timeframe is on a par with most store’s custom builds and thanks to the buying power of a big brand, pricing is very competitive. Our Xelius with full Dura Ace, 3T finishing kit and Fulcrum Racing Zeros would come in at £5,439.99
