Hayley Simmonds claims National Time Trial title

Hayley Simmonds claimed the Women's British National Time Trial title in Lincoln, beating Molly Weaver into second place, with Dame Sarah Storey claiming bronze.

Simmonds raced around the 33.6km course in an unassailable time of 51:39.89, ahead of riders including Ciara Horne and Katie Archibald, who came in fifth and sixth respectively.

Starting after the earlier under-23 race on the first day of the four-day nationals event, Horne was leading for quite some time before Simmonds came in nearly two minutes faster than her early benchmark.

Storey finished two seconds further back on Liv-Plantur's new signing Weaver. Hannah Barnes, who won the closing stage of the Aviva Women's Tour came home in seventh place, while track specialists Horne and Archibald finished two minutes off the pace.

Earlier in the day Scott Davies retained his U23 title with a winning time of 47:20.32. Team Wiggins rider Owain Doull took the second step on the podium, six seconds in arrears, and Tao Geoghegan Hart was a further 10 seconds back in third place.
