Giro d’Italia 2012: Stage 12

Wednesday, May 17

To: Sestri Levante

Length: 155km

Category: Medium mountains

No less than 100km shorter than the previous day’s stage, today’s route still packs a hefty punch. This is the sort of stage that will suit a strong escape group – but they’ll have to get a move on from the gun to evade capture on the day’s peaks.

Four categorised climbs await the riders, not least the second cat Valico la Mola in the final 40 kilometres. Anyone still in contention for a stage win after that will have to cope with the third-category Villa Tassani with 12km to go before dropping like a stone to the finish line.
