Giro d’Italia 2012: Stage 2

When: Sunday, May 6

From: Herning, Denmark

To: Herning, Denmark

Length: 206km

Category: Flat

The second stage of the 2012 Giro is the first mass-start road stage of the race, and like the opening prologue starts and finishes in the Danish town of Herning.

Aside from a small category four hill in the centre of the stage, the profile is very flat giving the sprinters a chance for their first stab at a stage win in a bunch finish – and a chance for a new overall leader in the race.

The bunch is always nervous on the first stage of a Grand Tour, so crashes and mishaps can’t be ruled out – and neither can the effects of a stiff breeze blowing off the sea, as a long stretch of the race takes place on the sea front.
