Tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games will officially go on sale from March 15, 2011, with tickets for the Paralympic games available from September 9, 2011.

Applications for Olympic Games tickets can be made for a six week period, finishing on April 26, 2011.

London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) stresses that tickets are not going to be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

If any of the 650 sports session are oversubscribed – and most will be – then final ticket allocation will be run on a ballot system.

Prices for tickets were announced in October. Tickets for cycling events range from £20 to £325, for some of the track finals. Cycling events include track, road race, time trial, BMX and mountain bike cross-country disciplines.

“The Olympic Games is the greatest show on earth and the application process to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity opens on 15 March,” said Sebastian Coe, LOCOG chairman.

“This is a chance for the UK public to see the world’s greatest athletes going for gold in their home country, to see their favourite Olympic sports close up and perhaps discover a new one.”

Two million people have already shown their interest in buying London 2012 tickets by signing up to the Games’ official ticket website at www.tickets.london2012.com.

Pricing for Paralympic tickets will be announced in May.

The London Olympic Games take place from July 27 to August 12, 2012.
