Liè
ge will play host to the start of the 2012 Tour de France, the race’s organisers announced on Friday.

The Belgian city will kick off the 2012 Tour, having previously hosted the race’s Grand Depart in 2004 with a 6.1km prologue time trial won by Fabian Cancellara.

Further details of the 2012 Grand Depart will be announced on the evening of November 18 2010, when Liège will host a free concert at the Provincial Palace of Liège to celebrate the announcement.

Liège is a town already very familiar with racing fans for the spring classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
