Just before the Tour start in Monaco, Cervélo presented the Test Team with limited edition painted S3 and R3SL frames that have strikes of bright yellow across the frame, commemorating Carlos Sastre’s 2008 Tour de France win; and no doubt Cervélo will be hoping he can replicate the feat.
A complete Shimano Dura Ace 7900 groupset takes care of Haussler’s transmission with the only deviation being from sponsor Rotor, with its new 3D cranks that where designed for the team to offer greater stiffness and have been stylishly co-ordinated with the frames new colour.
Being one of the sprinters in the team, he has chosen Zipp’s 808 wheels. His wheels weren’t ZEDtech versions but the team has them with ceramic bearings and we expect to see them rolled out for the sprint stages to help give him that extra edge.
Vittoria tyres are fitted to Haussler’s wheels, being one of the main sponsors of the team, but it seems the team is still using up its older tyres first. Haussler had an older 290Tpi Corsa CX tubular on the rear but a newer 320Tpi version on the front.
Nokon cables where used for Cervélo’s gear and brake cables at the start of the year, presumably to give smoother shifting and braking as Cervélo’s cable routing enters into the top tube behind the head tube. This makes for some tight curves with Shimano’s new routing from the STI that runs along the bars as with Campagnolo.
In a slight twist, Cervélo continue to use Nokon for the brakes but not for the gears, maybe the bedding in period for the cables is not ideal for the start of a major Tour! A well thought out solution to keep the cables neat as they enter the frame is shrink-wrap.
