Amaury Sports Organistion (ASO) confirmed on Saturday the 22 teams that will be taking part in the 2013 edition of the Tour de France (June 29-July 21).

French teams Europcar, Cofidis and Sojasun have received wildcard invites to join the 19 UCI WorldTour squads.

There are usually four wildcard teams selected for the Tour, but after Katusha were awarded a late WorldTour, ProTeam licence by the UCI after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the number of squads in the UCI’s top tier was upped from 18 to 19.

Unlike Giro d’Italia organiser RCS Sport, ASO has elected to keep the total number of teams in the Tour at 22 – and therefore three wildcard teams were chosen. Next month’s Giro will feature 23 teams.

Each Tour de France team will field nine riders.
