Welcome to the Pyrenees, welcome to 40km of arduous climbing.

The first of the stage’s three climbs, the Hourquette d’Ancizan, is being used for the first time. It averages 7.6%, which is notably higher than the day’s other climbs.

That’s not to say it’s harder than the Col du Tourmalet and the drag up to Luz Ardiden, but it will certainly leave its mark on the riders.

The 17.1km ascent of the hors catégorie Tourmalet will give us an indication of who is feeling strong, before the race is likely to explode on the 13.3km drag up to the finish.
