Stage 17

Date: Thursday July 19

Start: Bagnères-de-Luchon

Length: 143.5km

Type: High mountains

The final mountain stage should see aggressive riding from the pure climbers who need to gain as much time as possible over their GC rivals, ahead of the ‘race of truth’ on the penultimate stage.

Today’s stage features five categorised climbs, but it is the 19km hors-categorie Port de Balès, after around 100 kilometres, where the race is likely to fragment. Following this, a section of the Col de Peyresourde is taken in before a brief descent takes the riders onto a new climb, to finish at the ski station of Peyragudes.
