Tour de France 2014 stage 21 description, map and profile: Sunday July 27

When Sunday July 27
From Évry
To Paris Champs-Élysées
Length 137.5km
Category Flat

Where are we?
After a quick flight up from the Dordogne, the riders will set off on the 21st and final stage from Evry, 25km directly south of Paris.

What’s on the route?
The route heads directly north to Paris where, after passing through the finish line on the Champs-Elysées, the riders will then have eight more laps of the seven-kilometre circuit, which takes them up the famous avenue, around the Arc de Triomphe — just like it did last year, for the first time — and then back down the Champs-Elysées, and across the Place de la Concorde.

There’s one more intermediate sprint with just over six laps to go at which to gather some last-minute green-jersey points if the competition is still on a knife-edge, with more points available at the finish, with the maximum going to the winner.

What might happen?
This stage, remember, is what the sprinters like to call their unofficial world championships: an annual speed-fest that often confirms not only the Tour’s best sprinter, but often the world’s best sprinter, all up against each other.

Geography
Ah, Paris! The French capital really knows how to put on a show.

If you’re there
Good, honest steak-frites! Nobody does it better than the Parisian brasseries.
