Tour of Britain 2016 stage four

Steve Cummings (Dimension Data) became only the second Britain in history to win the overall classification at the Tour of Britain, sealing the victory after the final stage of the 2016 race in London.

Caleb Ewan (Orica-BikeExchange) took the stage win on the final day in a sprint finish, with Cummings crossing the line safely in the main bunch to seal his 26 second win over Rohan Dennis (BMC) as Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) claimed third.

There was no stage victory over the eight days for Cummings on en route to his overall glory, having finished second to Julien Vermote (Etixx-Quick Step) on stage two of the race, with the Belgian then claiming the overall lead until dropping time on the stage finish to Haytor.

Despite Australian Dennis taking a stage win and impressing in the stage 7a time trial, Cummings was able to hold onto his overall lead and carry it into the circuit race in the British capital.

The win make Cummings the first Briton since Bradley Wiggins in 2013 to win the race overall and only the second from the race’s home nation in its short history.
