British overall contender Chris Froome hits patch of oil whilst riding Vuelta a Espana team time trial route, but says he is not injured

Chris Froome has crashed during a pre-Vuelta a Espana training ride, though he apparently managed to escape the incident without injury.

The British overall hope tweeted that he’d hit a patch of oil on the road while the team were riding the route of the race’s opening team time trial around Jerez.

Froome also commented on the number of roundabouts on the route, saying “Jerez must have more roundabouts than any other city in Spain if the race route is anything to go by.”

Froome crashed out of the Tour de France in July, having gone into the race as defending champion and overall favourite. Scans showed that he had fractured his left wrist and right hand.

The 2014 Vuelta a Espana starts on Saturday, August 23, with a 12.6-kilometre team time trial.
