There are so many different personal preferences when it comes to kit bags, so it is hard for any manufacturer to get it perfect.
Length of straps, size of bag, number of pockets, pocket size; the list can be endless, and the offering from ILE gets a good few ticked off for its Race Day Bag.
Made from XPAC sailcloth, the large drawbridge style opening to the main compartment is great for accessing all your kit, especially smaller items that tend to migrate to the bottom of a bag. A neat waterproof pouch keeps things dry and three smaller compartments stow accessories, although the lack of size variety makes it tricky to stash all your goodies (and find them again).
Unfortunately though, we found this kit bag hard to get on with in practice. Ultimately the bag is just too big, crazy as that sounds. Fill to capacity and we found it very uncomfortable on our back and, due to its length, it clipped the back of the helmet when turning our head. It’s a great idea in theory, but in reality needs work, meaning at £170 it’s very expensive choice.
