Better known for their top-quality saddles, Fizik is a relative newcomer in the shoe market, bringing a fresh approach.
The R5 is the entry-level shoe in its range and uses a synthetic mesh rather than the usual leather upper.
This makes for a very light, breathable shoe that’s ideal for hot summer rides and sun-baked training holidays. The carbon composite sole isn’t the stiffest, and the heel cup tends to slip under load.
We also found we had to double the Velcro on the ankle strap back on itself to achieve a really snug fit. On a more positive note, the R5 is incredibly comfortable.
Not a shoe we'd recommend for aspiring racers, but for style-conscious summer sportive riders, the R5 should prove to be a big hit.
