Castelli Poggio Jacket review

Don’t be confused by the robust look of the Poggio jacket’s construction, whilst it appears to be for serious winter mornings it’s actually a relatively thin and therefore cool garment.

Constructed with a front panel of Gore’s Windstopper X-Lite stretch fabric (quite a mouthful), it’s designed for temperatures between 8 and 17 degrees when there could be a bit of rain in the air; which in theory makes it almost ideal for British spring and autumn rides.

When it comes to stowage capability, Castelli has looked to maintain the lightweight approach and keep things stripped down. Three good-sized rear pockets are your lot, they work well and are plenty secure, but it’s a shame that there is no zipped security option.

In testing we found the Castelli temperature guide to be a little misleading, on chilly mornings a full-on winter base layer was required to keep warm. At the other end of the scale, a summer base layer still leaves this rider feeling too warm when the mercury reaches into the high teens and if the sun is out you’ll definitely be needing to make use of the full length YKK Camlock zipper.
