Brooks says that before its release the Cambium C13 was been tested by over 100 riders, of which I was one, and that David Millar gave it a thorough examination when he rode it across the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix.

The English company claims the C13 signals its return to performance cycling and comes with  the strap-line ‘comfort at its lightest.’

Saddle buyer's guide

The saddle's upper is made from vulcanised natural rubber. It is designed to provide a comfortable ride by flexing in response to your position on the saddle, as well as absorbing some of the vibrations from the road.

Reflecting the characteristics of a performance saddle Brooks have sought to keep the weight to a minimum by using a one-piece braided carbon frame.

The C13 sits high up from the rails

A nod to the company's vintage look are the aluminium rivets which attach the top of the saddle to the base.

Like other carbon railed saddles, the C13's oval rails won’t fit all seat clamps. Also, be mindful when installing the C13 that it sits higher than most race focused saddles meaning you may need to lower your seatpost.

I have used the C13 on many rides out on the road as well as more than a few turbo sessions.

The Brooks Cambium C13 provides a comfortable ride even after many hours on the saddle and is particularly impressive across fairly unforgiving surfaces.

However, for the price there are lighter carbon saddles available and you may prefer a saddle with less of a curved profile and a shorter nose.
