Next year’s three-day Tour of Wessex cyclo-sportive has received the backing of Trek UK and Shimano.

The 2014 ‘Tour of Wessex sponsored by Trek Bicycles’ (May 24-26) is based in the Somerset market town of Somerton, and takes in many of the county’s well-known climbs and landmarks as well as excursions into the neighbouring counties of Wiltshire and Dorset.

Riders can elect to ride one, two or all three days and with several ride distances on offer. Day one (May 24) takes in Cheddar Gorge and King Alfred’s Tower; Day two (May 25) travels south into Dorset, passing through West Lulworth and Corfe Castle; and the final day three (May 26) heads west into Exmoor and an ascent of Porlock Toll Road.

Trek will be providing product demonstrations, a Trek/Bontrager shop, Trek neutral service for participants and hosting evening events, including movie nights, ladies seminars and demos.

Shimano will be providing mechanical support and provide spare wheels and mechnics at feed stations en route. Sport nutrition company OTE Sports has also signed up to provide its products during the event.

“Enhancing the Tour of Wessex is always top priority so to partner with Trek UK is extremely exciting for us, helping underline just how unique the Tour of Wessex really is,” said Tour of Wessex organiser Nick Bourne.

“We haven’t stopped there though, with 2014 seeing the introduction of our new official ‘Tour of Wessex Training Weekends’ and our ‘Tour of Wessex Training Camp Majorca’. Both concepts are designed to help riders develop fitness level and group riding skills before safely conquering the Tour of Wessex in style alongside thousands of others.”
