TOUR DE FRANCE 2007: STAGES
STAGE 11
Compiled by Edward Pickering, Nigel Wynn
When: Thursday, July 19
Where: Marseille-Montpellier
Length: 182.5km
DESCRIPTION
Today's stage kicks off in Marseille and from there it's across the Camargue
on a flat dash through Van Gogh country. It's flat and exceedingly dry.
If the mistral blows, as it does for 180 days of the year, then there
will be crosswinds for the riders to cope with.
Apart from the wind and heat, only the otherwise forgettable Cote de Calissanne
fourth-category climb 40km in will slow the riders down. Transition stages
like this can go either way - sometimes the bunch isn't interested in
chasing down breaks, and sometimes they get all competitive, setting up
a bunch finish for the sprinters. Either way, it's unlikely to make an
impression on the overall.
CW STAGE RATING
Scenery: 7/10
Difficulty: 1/10
