TOUR DE FRANCE 2007: STAGES
STAGE EIGHT
Compiled by Edward Pickering, Nigel Wynn
When: Sunday, July 15
Where: Le Grand Bornand-Tignes
Length: 165km
DESCRIPTION
The race goes to the heart of the Alps on this stage, starting in Grand
Bornand in the shadow of Mont Blanc and finishing at the mountain top
ski station of Tignes.
The Tour organisers should put a 'welcome to hell' banner at the stage
start. The first hill, the fourth category Col du Merais, comes within
the first 10km of the stage. This is quickly followed by a succession
of hills and mountains, ending with the knock-out blow of Tignes.
This stage will favour the mountain men and overall contenders wishing
to put some time into their opponents before the first rest day tomorrow.
There will probably be a new leader of the race after today.
