Super deep section carbon wheelset
The SDV or Super Deep-V 66 is Reynolds's deepest carbon rim and, as its name suggests, uses a 66mm full carbon rim.
At just 1,350g a pair, the carbon rims are light, and it is surprising how easily they get up to speed. This is partly down to the light rim, something that is also appreciated on a hilly course. In a straight line the SDV66 feels fast, be it on a TT or road race machine.
The same could be said through corners and during out-of-the-saddle sprinting, when the wheels were amply stiff. It is worth noting, though, that the deep rim takes more effort to turn into sharp corners.
The one area where it suffered - as a lot of deep sections do - was in crosswinds. The flat surface of the rim did make it more prone to catching the wind than some designs.
Hubs were DT Swiss 240s with a Reynolds-specific design, so it should come as no surprise that we had no problems in this department.
Stiff, and lightweight wheelset that feel fast on the straights and through the corners
