Minimal-looking, range-topping saddle for just under £260

Appearances can be deceptive when it comes to saddles.

Every model by Fizik I have ever ridden has been most agreeable, but one look at the undernourished Antares 00 and the doubts crept in.

How could such a minimal perch possibly be comfortable?

It features an unusually wide and flat surface area of carbon with a bare minimum of black Microtex padding, supported
by braided carbon rails. Not surprisingly, with all that carbon, the Antares weighs a scant 135g.

Having passed the track bike test with flying colours, the switch to road duties produced even better results.

Verdict

The Antares is supremely comfortable on long rides, with just the right amount of give from that carbon base and Fizik's Wing Flex design, and has replaced the Arione at the top of my saddle tree. The price tag is a bit steep, but what price comfort?
