Impressively specified magnesium-bodied, titanium-axled clipless pedals for under £100

With the main body constructed from lightweight magnesium, plus titanium spindles, the Look Keo-styled Xpedo Thrust pedals weigh a scant 190g per pair.

There's more than just an aesthetic similarity - the Xpedos are compatible with Look's Keo cleats, keeping life simple if you're already using that type of pedal. Three bearings per pedal should ensure durability and our test set is still turning as smooth as silk after plenty of miles.

Not much care has been taken with the finish of the pedal body, with visible casting imperfections and we suspect over time, the glossy, pearl-white paintjob will get tatty, especially through winter.

Also the supplied cleats are not up to the quality of the Look equivalents - more brittle, so take care when tightening the bolts, and we'd recommend not walking too far on them.

Verdict

The spec and weight of these pedals is impressive for under £100 - you'd only be getting a mid-range pedal from other manufacturers for the same price.

A note of caution, however: Xpedo recommends a maximum rider weight of 85kg (13st) for its lighter, titanium-axled models including this one.
