CW staffer Chris Catchpole test the Cero RC50 £699.99

Cycle Division's in-house brand Cero has been making waves with its competitively priced wheelsets. These full-carbon 50mm clinchers are brand new in the UK and we've had an exclusive first ride of them.

A ‘natural' UD carbon finish helps these rims look more expensive than they actually are. As well as looking smart, they showed no sign of wear and tear after a few hundred miles of use in mixed conditions.

You're unlikely to be riding these through a filthy winter, but it's good to know the finish is up to it.

The most important part, the ride, was very positive. Full gas gave a very tight, quick and punchy response - it's a very encouraging and enjoyable experience.

The hubs look uncannily like American Classics, which is no bad thing, and while they're not as aero as the modern generation of deep sections they do cut a thin silhouette and are a snip of the price.

Thinking of that you'll find they do get pushed around a fair bit by crosswinds but it's as you'd expect. There's a little flex when really cranking the bike but you'd be really picky to have a problem with it.

Verdict

For a brand you've probably never heard of before now, these wheels are a serious calling card: fast, light (1,430g) and with a great ride, there's also a tubular version for £50 less
