CW test the latest from Easton EA90 RT £680.00

Easton's contribution to the road tubeless market offers something few others do - a wider rim bed. At 22mm it's 3mm (circa 15 per cent), wider than standard and as such, makes for a larger air chamber for a given size of tyre.

Along with the obvious comfort improvement without weight this offers, it also allows for the sidewall to deform more readily, improving rolling resistance.

Whether or not this is quantifiable, our control tubeless tyre feels faster and more compliant on these, than other standard width tubeless wheels. The same is true of the standard clinchers and tubes, too.

As a structure in use, the wheel benefits from this extra rim width when it comes to lateral rigidity.

Spin-up is quick as there's not too much bulk in the rim, the rear wheel spoking pattern of Sapim double-butted spokes transfers energy well and, at 1,550g, they are certainly competitive in the weight department.

Verdict

Faster-rolling, stiff enough and tubeless compatible: there are plenty of things that make the EA90 RT well worth consideration.
