Shimano's carbon laminate low-profile rim has proved its worth to us in the past, but this excellent all-rounder has recently been refined, and is now tubeless compatible too.
The rim thickness has been slimmed down, saving some weight (826g rear, 632g front, 1,458g pair) while strength and rigidity have been improved with a patented process used to bond the carbon-fibre to the alloy.
The result is an exceptionally pleasing ride that's a cut above other wheels I've used at this price. The lateral rigidity impressed, aided by wide flange spacings and an asymmetric rear rim.
The C24 feels lively, and punchy - more so than you'd expect without a deep rim holding it firm. So far every tubeless tyre has inflated instantly with a standard track pump. Shimano's rim is very user friendly in that regard.
Verdict
Shimano has possibly produced the ultimate sportive wheel in the C24 tubeless. Light, stiff and strong but plenty comfortable, consistent braking from an alloy rim (also eliminating the need for specific pad compounds), and with a faster-rolling, more puncture-resistant, tubeless tyre you're left wanting for nothing. Especially at under £800.

I bought a pair of these at the start of the year to replace a pair of Ksyrium Elites.
The first thing I noticed was how silky smooth the ride was, buttery in fact.
After plugging in a pair of Planet X titanium skewers I also was well able to notice the drop in mass. These wheels spin up really quickly and are a delight when the road starts going up.
No adverse reactions in cross winds mean that they are dead stable even in comparison with the Mavics.
They are QUIET too. No more sounding like I have a lolly stick flicking on the spokes when I freewheel ( I know , I should keep driving but hey, what is the freewheel for?)
Another thing worthy of note is the rather neat computer magnet that fits almost invisibly onto a spoke. A lot more svelte than other designs.
All in all well worth the £550 I paid at Planet X, but nothing in the blurb says anything about being tubeless...
