ASTANA SUSPEND RACING

Alexandre Vinokourov 2007

The Astana cycling team have suspended all activity during August in order to "allow the whole team – management, staff and riders – to think about its future."

The official team statement continued: "The Astana Cycling Team's management will organise new regulations, as well on the level of the team's structure as of the ethical rules. The first concrete measures will be communicated later on."

This news comes hot on the heels of the withdrawal of the squad's bike supplier, Swiss-based BMC, as a result of Alexandre Vinokourov's high profile positive test for blood doping during the 2007 Tour de France.
