The third stage of the Volta a La Marina was over before it started this weekend, as hurricane force winds called a halt to the race.

As the 153 riders made their way through the neutralised zone towards the Terra Mitica circuit they found themselves halted by very strong winds.

Some riders were soon blown over and others had to do their utmost to stop their race machine from blowing away.

A statement from the organisers says that after deliberations between the Technical Jury and the Civil Guard (police) the race was called off. Riders will be informed of the rescheduled race and the classification jerseys remain unchanged.
