Chris Froome (Sky) has confirmed that he has fractured his left wrist and right hand after crashing out of the Tour de France during stage five. The defending Tour de France champion abandoned the race after a crash during Wednesday's wet stage after he had also sustained injuries the previous day.

Although initial X-rays appeared clear, Froome underwent more sensitive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans for both of his arms to detect fractures, and found that both limbs were affected.
