Help Bradley Wiggins to a SPOTY landslide

Bradley Wiggins wins 2012 Paris-Nice

Only our own complacency can prevent Bradley Wiggins becoming the third cyclist in five years to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Just because the Tour de France and Olympic hero is the out-and-out bookies' favourite, it doesn't mean he doesn't need our support on December 16.

This is becoming an annual call to arms and its proved to be devastatingly effective. It was four years ago that Sir Chris Hoy swept the floor by taking an incredible 40 per cent of the public vote and last year it was a landslide victory for Mark Cavendish with a massive majority of 49.4 per cent.

The plan remains the same, not only do we vote for Wiggo, we get five friends to support him, too. We shouldn't underestimate the strength of the opposition with Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Andy Murray also having won the hearts of the nation this summer.

I'm confident we won't let our man down. The BBC know the power of the cycling lobby - we're worse than EastEnders fans apparently.

Now the soap's Charlie Brooks (Janine) has been voted the winner of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, it's our turn to uphold cycling's honour by backing Wiggo.
